Term 3

Welcome back to the start of the last term of 2015. What a busy year it has been sent far. This term we start with aqua gym. Please remind your child that they need to being their togs to school everyday. The bus leaves school at 10am.

Gold awards week 10 term 3

Congratulations Isaiah Ramsay you are as good as gold! 

Art term 3

We have been working really hard with collage this term. We read the story the mixed up chameleon then we dyed hand towels lots of different colours. Finally we ripped up the paper and put it on the picture of a chameleon. They look fantastic!! 

Writing week five

Our focus in writing at the moment is describing words. We made lots of yummy popcorn so we could write about it :-)

We went on a bear hunt in week one. Sadly we didn't catch a big one but we did enjoy learning about onomatopoeia.

 

We are learning how to collage this term. We have started by making Elmer the Elephant. 

We have been enjoying playing balloon tennis particularly on the wet cold inside days. 

Our kiwisport focus this term is ball skills. The class really enjoy the sessions with the kiwisport instructor. 

Let's catch up...

Wow we have had a chilly start to the term with lots of sickness too. It is lovely to see us all back on board now however. 

Last week we said goodbye to Sophie and hope that she settles in to her new school quickly. We also welcomed Te Ariki who joins us from Te Waka Una. 

Mondrian Art

Lately we have been viewing appreciating  Mondrian Art. Then we practiced painting some of our own Mondrian style snowmen. 

A special visitor

On Tuesday we were so lucky in Room 5 to have Mandy Dempsey an ICT facilitator from e-time join the class and teach how to extend our learning with iPads. The children learnt how to use iMovie, Draw and Tell and Pic Collage. These are three apps that really challenge the children's creative thinking skills. 

We have also just added a new app to our ipads that focuses on coding. Coding is a fantastic way for children to experience programming and utilise logical thinking. Watch this space!! 

Parent and Student Sharing Afternoon

We had a fabulous afternoon in Room 5. The children were so excited to share their learning with 1:1 devices with parent s and caregivers. 

Thank you to those parents and caregivers who were able make the first of what will be a regular occurrence in Room 5. 

Having a Kahoot!

On Thursday we learnt how to play a new game with our ipads! Kahoot is a quiz game that we play in class using the interactive whiteboard and our own ipad we are looking forward to teaching other classes all about it!

Marble painting.

During Language Experience today we created marble paintings to develop our understanding of gravity.. The children had a great time with the paint.. These will make a fabulous addition to their learning journals. 

New ways of learning with iPads

IToday was a fantastic day in Room Five. Using our new knowledge of app smashing we tried our hand at completing maths and handwriting using the 'explain everything' app. First the lesson has to be recorded by the teacher, then it has to be stored in Google drive. Once this happens the children retrieve the lesson from Google drive and open it in explain everything. They are then free to complete the lesson. Although it was our first attempt it went very well. Even the children seem to be impressed with how much they are able to do. Keep it up Room Five. 

Let's move it...

I This term our inquiry is taking us through a journey involving forces and energy. We began by flying a 'whirly bird' to visualise push and pull forces - the children describe gravity as an invisible hand pulling objects to the ground!! 

Fun with Cris Fortune

We had a great time last week with Cris Fortune. He taught us all about healthy eating and made some wonderful spinach and apple crepes. These were more popular with some than others! 

Super Spellers

Well done to those children in room 5 who made it into the spelling beehive this week. I was so impressed with all your hard work! Keep it up! 

Commemorating Anzac Day

IToday we had a special assembly to remember our fallen soldiers and to think about what Anzac means to us. Later in the afternoon we talked about Anzac Day while we ate some Anzac biscuits! 

Poppy making

Today in room five we talked about the significance of ANZAC day. We talked about the fallen soldiers and why this year is an extra special year. Then we made a poppy to wear at our special ANZAC assembly on Friday. 

Aquagym Day 2

We are having a great time down at the pool. Two days in and Mrs Sutherland can already see our improvements. It is so great to see Room 5 parents down here too. 

Super Spellers

This term we are going to work really hard to improve on our spelling. Hopefully you will all practice for at least five minutes every night at home so that you can get your bee into the hove on Friday!

First day at Aquagym!

What an awesome way to start the term - with an early morning swim. Room five really enjoyed their first session today. Swimming runs for the next two weeks so don't forget to bring your togs each day! 

Halfway...

Gosh the holidays are going super fast room 5!!! Just over a week and we will be back into it. I hope you are having great holidays - don't forget that we start swimming on the first day of term two so remember to bring your togs!!! See you soon. 

Gold Awards April 2015

Congratulations to Kalolaine!!! You have been good as gold! Well done Mikalah - a super reading effort this term, keep up the great work. 

Kite Day

What a fantastic Friday we had! It was so cool seeing all the room five children joining in with the rest of the school and flying their kites on the field. We had a lot of fun making them in class even if it was a test of our listening skills! 

Week 7 in Room 5

It is wonderful see members of our class getting so involved with jump jam - well done Alex. 

Congratulations Logan and Sophie who were presented with their Duffy Books by our special guest on Wednesday!

 The Bunnies read all about making Hedgehogs this week so on Thursday they made some of their own - I don't remember there being that many marshmallows in the recipe!!!

Athletics day was fantastic - thanks Mr Marsh we all had heaps of fun!!! 

Library visit.

On Wednesday we had some visitors from the library who read some wonderful books to the children. It was a ver interactive session. The children had a great time!
