Week Four - Adventure Playground Obstacle Course

Kia ora whanau and caregivers,

We have been very lucky this week to have the wonderful Mrs. Tizzard in our class on Thursday.  On Thursday the children completed some wonderful work but they also got to challenge each other to an obstacle course!

Below are some photos and some captions explaining what is going on!

Week Three - The Final Week of Art Attack!

Kia Ora Whanau and Caregivers,

This week has been a really fun and exciting opportunity for the students in Room 5 to work together to complete some amazing work.

This week saw the completion of yet another amazing Art activity around the topic "My Whanau and Me".  Within this activity the students were looking at the different members of their whanau.  They were considering what made their whanau special, and decided on ways that they could capture this within their art.  The students did an amazing job with these and they will be available soon for viewing in Room 5!

The students also participated in their second round of P.E.  Within this round Room 5 looked at how to complete hurdles.  This knowledge will serve them well when considering the upcoming Athletics Sports events.  It looked as though they were all having a great time and were working really hard to give it their best effort!

I am getting a consistent group of students who are completing their Reading and are bringing homework back at the moment which is really great.  By Week 5 I am expecting to have all of the students in Room 5 completing homework on a regular basis and returning it each week for marking.  It is so important that this gets completed, as it really does make a difference to your childs learning!  Thank you very much to those whanau who have made an active effort to get this back to me each week!

Finally, I would just like to say how nice it was to get to catch up with the many families that I did during goal-setting interviews.  I found these interviews really positive and greatly look forward to supporting your children to achieve their learning goals for Term 1 and Term 2.

Week Two - House Meetings, PE and Other Fun Learning!

Kia ora whanau and caregivers,

This week proved to be a really great week for the students.  They are beginning to settle into the routines and expectations of Room 5 and are making positive choices towards their learning!  Across the week Room 5 has participated in many fun learning activities.  The students have completed Recount writing under the theme "All About Me", they have tied together their knowledge of Statistics this week, and are also learning many fun technology and science concepts as part of Discovery.  One thing that the students really enjoyed this week was getting to meet in their house groups and getting to talk about their strategies to win the house competition for 2017.  Below is a really great photo which was taken during one of the house meetings!

In Week 3 the goal setting interviews will begin.  These are starting on Tuesday and are going through until Thursday.  Please, if you have not made a booking so far, pop in and see me and I can book you in.  Alternatively, message me on Classdojo and I can see if a time is free!

For those families who have purchased stationary through Linwood North School, it has now been delivered and sorted and will be in use by the students in Week 3.  If your child is getting stationary from elsewhere, please ensure that it comes to school with them on Monday.

Week One - Settling Back In

Kia ora whanau and tamariki,

It has been a very exciting first week.  We have already began our amazing learning journey and I am really enjoying getting to know each and every one of the akonga as their classroom teacher.  To begin the week, the students completed exercises which began to grow their knowledge of each other and how they each learn.  The students have spent a considerable amount of time towards understanding the routines of Room 5 and preparing for their learning.   As a class we have already got to participate in discovery time, buddy time and have completed special fitness activities!

Within Room 5 homework will be sent home every week.  The expectation is that this is completed at some point throughout the week and handed back in by Friday for marking.  Until we have our stationary, this will be put with any reading material into the students Reading Folder.  The tasks will include reading, learning an assortment of spelling words and completing one or two tasks around the learning for the week.  I would be very grateful for your support around this area.

Finally, although it is only Week One we quickly have approaching two events which I would like to invite all whanau and caregivers to.  Next week on Thursday the 9th of February we will be having a shared kai night, where you may bring some takeaways and eat them outside the class and then meet and talk with me and in week three, we will be having goal-setting meetings.  These are short, fifteen minute meetings where we discuss the direction of your tamariki and where you would like to see them get to before the end of Term 2.  More information regarding this will be coming home with tomorrows notices.

Please see below for our awesome buddy time photos!
