Setting Goals and Matariki

Over the last couple of weeks we have been learning about Matariki. Matariki is a the name of a cluster of stars that rises every year in mid-winter. For many Maori it represents the start of a new year. In light of this we have been setting some goals.  Have a chat with your Whanau and make a comment with some goals you have for the rest of the year.

Welcome!

This is Hana! She is new to Room 5. Well done for making a fantastic start at Linwood North School Hana.

The Linwood Mobile Well Being Hub

Today we were lucky enough to be visited by the new Linwood Mobile Wellbeing Hub. It was a great learning opportunity for all of us! We were able to experience a get down, get low, get out obstacle course with the Fire Department, we talked with some Policemen and Policewomen and some of us were lucky enough to earn a dental hygiene kit. At the end of it all we were able to line up for a free sausage. The Wellbeing Hub will be visiting monthly so feel free to make the most of this fantastic resource and have a chat with the different agencies next time the hub is in our area.

The biggest learning curve was talking about the emergency plans we have in place at home. It is important that we have a meeting place in the case of a fire and that we are able to remember our address in the case we need to make an emergency phone call. Has your whanau got a plan? Share some of your ideas with us?

Healthy Sandwiches! Yummy

Sunset Art

This term our Art focus is painting. This is one of our masterpieces! We practiced blending different colours to create a sunset effect.  We spread the black dye by blowing through a straw to create the tree silhouettes. This was a challenging technique but we all enjoyed doing something a little bit different!

WOW! Thanks Noel Leeming!

Last week Room 5 had the opportunity to explore a range of amazing technology thanks to Noel Leeming. First of all we were introduced to the 3D printer. We were shocked to find out that they are now using 3D printers to build apartment buildings, make prosthetic limbs and even make chocolate! We also had the opportunity to do oil paintings on a Windows tablet, play a maths game, solve puzzles and control a robot.  Our favourite activity was using the virtual reality headset!
